I woke up from a nightmare and all I can think about is the ways in which evil happens.

I know for a fact that precious little discussion or thought was put into NDP’s position on MAiD. Fewer vote loss risked in supporting than rejecting. Lots of more high profile issues...

Potential conflict with their labour base - nurses union just wants their asses covered when they ‘suggest’ MAiD.
Support Liberals on this and back room bargain for support from them for thing NDP actually cares about.

Liberals for their part are moving forward and ramming this through because choosing not to appeal a Quebec ruling was election strategy for garnering more votes in that province. They let clock run and now create a self-created false urgency to pass without proper consultation.

Media isn’t covering it - and if they do it’s in the laziest possible way - because they are tired, under-staffed and way, way, way to beholden and deferential to govt. Plus many of them probably agree out if their own ableism.

This isn’t torch holding weird ass dudes in khakis and polo shirts. This is evil by ‘whatever’ - evil by ‘tired’ - evil by ‘strategic’ - evil by ‘under-staffed and trained by ‘scoops’ and ‘special access’ and ‘what if I break with the pack and am wrong’

It’s evil by fear of future. It’s evil by fear if disability. At its most basic it’s evil by fear of death. The shocking realization is that these are people who pretend to ‘accept’ death but it is not acceptance, it’s opposite. It’s from fear not acceptance.

Evil always relies on fear.

Btw I’m using evil not in religious or supernatural sense but in a very human way.
