In Feb05,the king dismissed the then Prime Minister and dissolved the popularly elected
Prlimnt.All political parties had called out for a strike of 4 days which later turned out into a maoist mvment.The no of protesters reached around 5lac. the king was forced to concede demands

The SPA(seven party alliance) chose Girija Prasad Koirala as the new Prime.The SPA and the Maoists came to an
understanding about how the new Constituent Assembly was going to be elected.

In 2008, the monarchy was abolished and Nepal became a federal democratic republic. In 2015, it adopted
a new constitution.
