Today is Small Business Saturday. Small businesses of all kinds are the beating heart of the #Battersea community and they’ve adapted brilliantly in tough circumstances – but many are struggling and facing a serious cash crisis after eight months of difficult trading conditions.
I have called again and again for the Government to give them the support they need to survive the crisis.

I went to meet with @Chocolate Films #SmallBizSatUK – They create video content for museums and art galleries and as a social enterprise they outreach to young people and disadvantaged adults to offer creative digital workshops in media.
They have had to make redundancies and are receiving much fewer commissions, but are still having to pay full rent. This has led to them having to seek another premises.
The Drumshack is an independent music store that has been open for over 20 years - Their main consumers are professionals working in the live entertainment industry –
but with the effects of the pandemic, they have lost this huge client base and had to close their shop for most of March – December. Whilst they have been able to move online, they have lost a significant amount of business.
Cafes, like Il Molino have done amazing work in adapting their business to be covid safe and doing take away only. Many small businesses reopening this week may not make it to Spring because of the Government’s irresponsible choices.
Its estimated 390,000 small businesses are worried they won’t survive the next three months. The support on offer from Government is inadequate.
99% of Hairdressers saw government grants shrink during the second lockdown. - I went to visit @hdcutzuk , one of the many Hair and Beauty Salons on Lavender Hill. Whilst they have done okay, many of their neighbours in the sector have struggled.
