“First of all ‘secularism’ is not the right word to use in this Indian context at all because secularism has a connotation of hostility towards all religions or indifference towards religion and Indians are not hostile to religion and Indians are not indifferent to religion,”1/n

Mark Tully famously commented about the massive banyan tree that Indian National Congress is . When the Banyan Tree falls , it uproots many trees and bushes in its vicinity because its roots run deep and wide . 3/n
What we are witnessing currently in India is the uprooting of a banyan tree that occupied out public spaces and minds for the last 100 years .A banyan tree that had started rotting from the top and bottom . A banyan tree that needs to be uprooted for plants and shrubs to grow 4/n
The banyan tree has started uprooting many shrubs and small trees around it . The social fiber of society is being shredded by the banyan tree for it realizes that it’s time is up but still tries to desperately hold on to its last roots by dividing the earth it sits on 5/n
The fall won’t be smooth . The banyan tree won’t go with out a fight .The India that we all love and treasure must survive this onslaught at all costs .The previous anti CAA protests and the current farmer protests , both of which defies reason is all part of that fall !Jai Hind
