Prior to the early 1900s, there was a capitalistic and nationalistic drive to Chinese feminism (I.E, "women should be educated because it keeps the nation and economy strong"). It viewed women's rights as an independent issue, separate from the liberation of the nation itself
This was because modern feminism in China has its roots in the national independence movement, which opposed the Qing dynasty, China'a last imperial dynasty
Anarchists were heavily involved in the 1911 uprising that overthrew this dynasty

In fact, several Tongmenghui - a socialist resistance movement that was instrumental in the uprising - elders were anarchists
Chinese anarchists were at the forefront of a new wave of feminism that called for women's liberation for the sake of women, not the economy/state

Additionally, they were among the first to say no people group were truly liberated until men and women were viewed as equals
