Here is a recitation of the Chapter of ض and ظ found in Imam Ibn al-Jazari’s well-known Muqaddimah using the original ض that resembles ظ in sound. It should be clear why an entire chapter has been dedicated to this. And no other pair of similar letters has a chapter like this!

Even though both ض and ظ sound nearly identical in the recording, I am pronouncing each from different points of articulation. They sound so similar that Ibn al-Jazari and his predecessors held it necessary for students to learn every single root word with ظ in the Qur’an...
...in order to be able to distinguish it from words with ض. In this chapter, he even includes words with ض that resemble words with ظ in order to make sure that the student will not confuse them.
Here is the same chapter read with the modern ض. As you can tell, the two letters are so clearly distinct in sound that it would be extremely strange to dedicate a WHOLE chapter on this distinction as opposed to something like س and ص for example.
I’m not sure why these parts got cut off in the original videos but I consider these lines part of the chapter as well. Here it is in the original ض. Notice how difficult it would be to distinguish them when right next to each other.
Here’s the same part with the modern pronunciation. Very easy to distinguish and a total non-issue.
