im gonna break down the ke mo/banyue race/ban yue thing cuz ppl keep expecting us to repeat ourselves just to ignore everything we say.
im gonna preface this by saying that non uyghurs, non south/west asians, ppl not of mughal descent and non muslims will not easily understand why it’s so obvious to us. just listen and try to understand.
every single character in the manhua so far is light skinned. no one on any scale of brown exists. ke mo and ban yue are supposed to be the same race, ban yue may be mixed but there is a level of care that has to be taken with mixed characters to avoid them falling into+
gross mixed ppl tropes. ban yue isn’t a pure protagonist but she is inarguably a protagonist. ke mo is decidedly an antagonist. ke mo was described as animalistic and savage, big and angry. by making ban yue look completely like a light skinned midlander while being the only+
“good” ban yue person is obviously playing into the trope that the light skinned (commonly white, but it applies here) part of a mixed person can save them from being as savage as their brown skinned side is. it doesn’t matter that ban yue was a weak and starved child,
skin does not lighten to that extent cuz of that, that’s not how it works. both ban yue and ke mo are ghosts, it makes no sense for only her to be pale cuz of that. “there are mixed kids that look like only one side” yes but ignoring that this is an established trope is+
willful ignorance. it /is/ that deep because the entirety of ban yue arc has made muslims uncomfortable and the manhua took it a step further.
ban yue has absolutely no features in common with ke mo. the skin colour is obvious but look at their nose and eyes and mouths. ke mo and his soldiers are clearly not chinese, ke mo looks like my pakistani relatives. that’s how obvious this is. starember went out of her way+
to draw ke mo as a violent, savage south or west asian brown man. if you choose to ignore that despite it being clear then u might as well just say you don’t care about brown ppl and move on, there is literally no ignoring this. now, the styles in which ke mo and his soldiers+
are dressed are typical south/west asian styles, easily recognizable to us. saying that starember is chinese so she can’t be racist is actually rlly stupid i hope you all know this. if your issue is that this is just accurate to the novel so there’s no issue: consider that+
mxtx isn’t flawless, there’s an inherent issue with ban yue arc when u factor all of this in. especially if you remember what china is doing to their muslims right now.
