A manager's results in the initial six-twelve month period after being appointed is a bigger indictment of his predecessor than the current coach. People don't seem to remember that when it comes to Mikel & Emery comparisons.
To put that in context w/ Arsenal, Emery's 32 wins in his opening 50 games suggests to me that AW left this club in a better position than people suggest. A lotta those wins were down to Wengerball muscle memory w/ the greater intensity, pressing etc that Emery brought.
So for Arteta, he inherited an objectively worse squad in terms of ability, balance & morale (huge factor that's rarely mentioned). Immediately changed culture + morale but quality + balance of squad is out of his hands. You cannot cheat that & that's why we've hit a wall.
Yep, what's essentially happened. Fans were reluctant to turn against Emery since he was our first coach since AW, new coach, new project etc. PTSD playing a part now, fans are flinching at the first sign of suffering & stagnation. https://twitter.com/fxcklacazette/status/1335059176712761344?s=20
Should’ve said individual brilliance rather than ‘Wengerball muscle memory’ which is just a fugaze buzzword term, but general point remains the same. Tweeted it at 3AM so allow it 👍🏾
