i'm getting compliments on how i'm performing at a higher level than the years of experience that i actually have in product design. super awesome to hear, but i attribute a lot of that to reading and learning from other designers.
i think reading product/design books and medium articles can create psuedo experience for people new to the industry. and it's honestly unrealistic to expect to gain that much experience in just your job, especially if you come in at a lower level with less responsibilities.
and i previously worked in marketing, so i already gained business/professional skills. so yes, if you look at my ~1 year in product design, you'll think i know nothing and am very junior. but let's not discount the 4 years of marketing and tech experience i had before.
lastly, i love reaching out and talking to product managers, product designers, and ux researchers with way more experience than me. my dad always told me it's better to learn from other people's mistakes than to make the mistake myself.
just a note to people when they see someone with less design experience trying to get a job. you never know!
