I’m sure everyone feels the same, holding on to any thread of hope, bargaining with ideas like... 1/6

...“what if I isolate before/after”, “what if we get tested”. Nothing is guaranteed, any indoor gathering is risky. Yes you can wash hands, open windows, distance, wear masks, but high community transmission may get through all layers of protection. 2/6 https://www.todaysparent.com/family/family-health/christmas-quarantine-coronavirus/
It would be awful to ruin all future holidays just to have this one. Virtual is safest!

Holidays are about love & caring for others. Don’t risk your health to shop in crowds, set boundaries & say no if you’re being invited to unsafe gatherings. 3/6 https://www.refinery29.com/en-ca/2020/12/10196011/covid-christmas-quebec-ontario-canada-2020

Some *safer* ideas:
- Walk outside to look at decor
- Mailing Christmas cards!
- Outdoors food/gift drop-offs
- Virtual karaoke/movie night

- Virtual cooking competition
- Virtual gingerbread house decorating competition
(Let me know if you have other ideas!)

Yes, there are some risk reduction strategies as below. (Yes, I know not everyone will stay home, so FYI)
But any indoor gathering will be risky, especially in high-risk areas & for high-risk people. 5/6

Always follow local public health guidance at a minimum & check for updates as situations change.
It is VERY difficult to avoid seeing loved ones for the holidays, but hopefully being cautious this year will ensure that there are many more healthy joyful years to come.
