I dunno, I know a lot of people who's entire living space has to fit into a 8x11 spot, so that pantry tweet just fucks with me because it's such a large space dedicated to nothing special. Like the items in the pantry make sense for a family of five kids, but...
Like the more I look at it the less umbrage I take with what's stored in the pantry and the more I take with how it's stored, and the decadence that it shows. A custom made space with custom containers to store your child's favorite fruitloops.
When I was a kid one of my best friends came from a family with 8 children living in the same house. But their pantry was just a shelf in the corner of the kitchen.
I think every family deserves a large space to safely store their food in. I don't think it's in good taste to take an article out in the wall street journal to show off your custom pantry the size of most living spaces that stores nothing but off the shelf food stuffs.
I think what people like me are freaking out about is that most of us who dream of a space like that want to store things like 100lbs of a variety of grains, 5 dozen jars of home pickles, exotic spices etc. To have a storage space most cooks dream of for fruit loops is a waste
bring back the root cellar
It's just another example of people with money having no taste but will absolutely outspend you to let you know it.
