Started seeing films @ByTowne as a child. Sunday morning kids matinees. 2001: A Space Odyssey. Rocky Horror. So many concert films. Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense. Pink Floyd: The Wall. Zeppelin: Song Remains the Same. Urgh a music war. Wee Scottish films like Local Hero. 2/
I saw a ton of independent and international films @ByTowne that absolutely cracked my head open to a wider worldview. Thinking about Koyaanisqatsi, scored by Philip Glass. Bill Masons Waterwalker, scored by Bruce Cockburn. 3/
The @ByTowne ran films you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else in Ottawa, even in the VHS age. Buckaroo Bonsai, Eraserhead. Saw Python films there years after their release. Classics like Casablanca. Thank you Bruce and @ByTowne you were a window into an amazing world. 4/
