Police overtime is a BIG deal in DC. You may have heard about @MayorBowser and @councilofdc robbing health care funds during a pandemic to pay a $43 million @DCPoliceDept overtime bill, but do you know how much overtime individual cops make? (1/11)
We’ve got a list of the highest overtime earners for FY2019. The 25 MPD officers with the most overtime all made over $100,000 in overtime that year! Some of them more than doubled their regular salary! Here are the highest earners: (2/11)
Coming in at Number 5 on the list is Kirk Del Po, a Detective Grade II. His base salary was $95,515 in FY2019. How much overtime did he make? $145,265. He went from a $96k a year job to a $241k job. (3/11)
Number 4 is Joseph Dolan, a Sergeant. He made $113,305 a year as his base salary. His overtime in FY2019? $155,114. (4/11)
Paul Riley is also a Sergeant. With the $183,497 in overtime he made in FY2019, he took his $110k job and turned it into a $294k job. $183k in OT puts him at Number 3 on the list. (5/11)
Gregory Jackson, another sergeant, turned his $110k job into a $302k job. That’s $191,354 in overtime over the year, making him the 2nd highest overtime earner in FY2019. (6/11)
And coming in as the MPD employee with the most overtime in FY2019, Sergeant Tony Giles raked in over $206,000 in overtime. Two-hundred and six thousand dollars in overtime! For one cop! In one year! Giles almost TRIPLED his regular 110k salary! (7/11)
Keep in mind, these are the numbers from FY2019. So that’s not even including all of the overtime that caused the MPD to go $43 million over their overtime budget this last year. When the list comes out for FY2020, we expect it to be even worse. (8/11)
And what are Bowser’s @DCPoliceDept and @DCPoliceUnion doing during this overtime? Attacking First Amendment protestors. Murdering Black residents. Racial profiling. Harassing our homeless neighbors. Targetting sex workers. (9/11)
