A thread on unique plays the rockets can add offensively to unlock C.Wood next year, based on how the Mavs used Porzingis (who Silas coached) and AD for having a similar game.

On a defensive note, This was My favorite C.Wood block last year

#OneMission
One of the best plays next year will be the Harden/Wall + Wood pick and roll.

Notice how in all these plays shooters are stacked on one side of the court?

It makes it impossible for any defenders to help on KP+ AD to stop the lob.
Aside from Pick and Rolls with the Point Guards, the Lakers also allowed their wings to run lob plays of screens.

Mclemore/House + Wood should be a nice combo in the non-Harden minutes
The Mavericks last year scored 1.41 PPP of cuts last year (1st in the NBA) while the Rockets scored a sad 1.22 PPP (27th in the NBA)

Adding a center that can alternate between cutting from the dunker spot or corner should massively improve the teams off ball scoring.
The Lakers proved last year that double big twin tower lineups could still be very effective in the right conditions.

D.Cousins passing + Wood’s Rim finishing is nice addition to a rockets team that relied too heavily on 3’s in the past.
In 2019/2020 March (7 games)
Christian Wood averaged 27 PPG on 67 TS%, with the Pistons running mostly Pick and Rolls/Picks and Pops.

Silas should have a field day with simple but effective screen plays like this.
The Rockets last year had a 20% transition Frequency(3rd in the league) but where actually a below average team at scoring on fast breaks.

KP/AD reduce the need for tough contested shots at the rim for teammates . Wood should have a similar effect.
The Lakers where the kings last year of what I call the “Logo Pass”

Lebron is barely past half court, but if the defense isn’t set they get an easy lob or layup almost every time.

C.Wood was a top 3 lob player last year and these should be easy points for him.
Both the Lakers/Mavs experimented with small players setting screens for KP + AD.

You can see how effective it is.

Bigs are terrible at going around screens, and guards ....are not stopping these guys without fouling.
The Lakers crushed zones in a bunch of different ways in 2020. One of the best ones was touch passing with a big in the middle of the zone.

With Cousins + Wood, the rockets have a solution with dealing with the zones + traps they couldn’t beat last year in the playoffs.
