Story of the Coalition's mandated independent assessments and ban on NDIS support both of which could only be done after years of political chess and ransom with states. Big picture I didn't fully understand until I sat down to look at the pieces closely. https://www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/politics/2020/12/05/exclusive-the-seven-year-plot-undermine-the-ndis/160708680010805
I do hope you can take time to read this all the way. It sets it all out but, in short, it outlines a commonwealth mission to regain control of the NDIS from the states by holding Medicare Levy funding owed to jurisdictions until they sign over an agreement to change legislation.
Getting back on the NDIS independent assessments tweet train (story above) because I wanted to remind you that the National Disability Insurance Agency already ~does~ functional assessments of people in the scheme and has done since day one, as it is obliged to do under leg'n.
Related: my story on the now abandoned move to privatise aged care assessment teams. I first wrote about this in November last year and months later the government was forced to bin the proposal after an outcry. Very similar to what is proposed under NDIS. https://www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/share/9026/2r3oO9uK
Abandoned push to outsource residential aged care assessments has many striking similarities to what is being proposed under the NDIS. In fact, the frontrunner for the NDIS tender is a major provider of aged care home care assessments. These were privatised under Mitch Fifield.
