The disability population will continue to grow exponentially from this crisis, in addition to the many other on-going crises of pollution, toxins, climate change; state and intimate violence; poverty, capitalism; lack of access to safe medical care, working conditions; etc... https://twitter.com/BuzzFeedNews/status/1334952053676929027
Ableism must be part of all of our work. No matter what community you are part of or are working with. Disability is everywhere, though ableism teaches abled folks how to not recognize it and pretend it away.
There is no way to talk about violence, harm or trauma without talking about disability, ableism and abled supremacy. This is true for all different kinds of violence, not only physical violence.
If you're working for social justice, you must educate yourself abt ableism, abled supremacy & disability justice. you must be able to integrate it into your analysis of abolition, gender oppression, white supremacy & racial justice, domestic/sexual violence, climate justice...
You must understand the Medical Industrial Complex and how its tentacles reach far beyond hospitals and into prisons, education, poverty, colonization, the gender binary, etc.
Are we ready for what is coming next? Are we prepared for how many more disabled people with chronic health conditions there will be? Are we ready for how that will and should necessarily shift our movements and political work?
Or are we going to continue to shut out disability and disabled people from mass movements and community? Are we going to continue to not include ableism and abled supremacy from our liberation work?
