'It is an ominous sign of the time that Indian history is being viewed in official circles in perspective of recent politics' writes R. C. Majumdar in his independent work History of Freedom movement in India Vol. I. +
The voluminous work was approached with 'a strictly historical point of view' in his own words. However, the work commissioned under Government of India was disapproved due to some political interference. +
The three volume work of history of freedom movement stands unrivalled even today. Like this, R.C. Majumdar wrote a total of thirty-seven volumes and hundreds of articles in English and Bengali! +
R.C. Majumdar being fearless in face of adversity always strived for truths including his historical genius on the Hindu-Muslim relationship. On the Hindu-Muslim relationship he writes, +
'I have not hesitated to speak out the truth, even if it is in conflict with views cherished and propagated by distinguished political leaders for whom I have the greatest respect. The history of Hindu-Muslim relations may serve as an illustration.+
An impression was sought to be deliberately created that Hindus and Muslims had already shed so much of their individual characteristics and there was such a complete transformation of both and a fusion of their cultures that there was no Essential difference between the two. +
Though every true Indian must ever wish for such a consumation, it was unfortunately never a historical fact....'

' The Hindu leaders deliberately ignored patented truth and facts of history when they refused to recognise the differences between the two. +
The consequence was that no serious effort was ever made by Hindu leaders to tackle the real problem that faced India!'+
We remember such an eminent historian on his birth anniversary whose pristine scholarship serves for an individual to look back at the historical truths in his work which were or are ignored at the behest of the political exigencies!
