Every year, two Matchweeks are dedicated to #RainbowLaces
and the partnership with Stonewall.

We have extremely stringent word/phrase filters and anti-bot approaches. Honestly, our 'offensive word' list on IG/FB is well over 5000 words long with every variation under the sun. This still isn't enough on days like today.
We're fortunate enough to have (the incredibly talented) @fmccrindle on our team and she has led the way on our community management approach generally, but also on days like today where it needs a bit more intense management
1) We respond to positivity with positivity. Simply put, we just engage fans who are supporting us with a small interaction. It also encourages other fans who may think about remain silent to be supportive too. https://twitter.com/premierleague/status/1334842655474409473
It also sees negative comments pushed further down and might think someone who will throw a negative comment into the mix, to think twice about doing it.
2) We educate. Fans often compare this to politics and ask why football is getting involved, or are genuinely curious about what the campaign is about.
Everyone regardless of their sexuality or gender should feel welcome to watch and enjoy the PL https://twitter.com/premierleague/status/1334796317009321984

3) We block, report and treat abuse seriously. We have a huge amount of tools at our disposal and work closely with our platform partners to push for more development in this area.
Still, this remains a huge challenge for a global brand like the Premier League where social attitudes differ across the world. We received 14000 comments on two posts today on FB, which gives you a sense of the scale we face.
Despite its challenges, these campaigns are incredibly rewarding and I do think we're helping to make a change. + We get to amplify great stories like this one https://twitter.com/SheffieldUnited/status/1334829816663560200
Anyway, next time you see something you're passionate about being supported, make your voice heard in the comments. It'll make a community manager's job out there much easier (and nicer)
