Today the @StarTribune ran an article on substance abuse and MH support during the pandemic, which is important and I'm glad they're covering it.
Pandemic stressors they listed: "social isolation, job loss, salary cuts, loss of health insurance or homelessness."
What's missing?

GRIEF is missing, @StarTribune . You forgot GRIEF.
American news outlets are consistently framing PREVENTION MEASURES as the ONLY source of stress from the pandemic. Which allows people to act like the prevention measures are the PROBLEM.
Instead of, like, HORRIBLE VIRUS.

Or here's another stressor: newly acquired disabilities. I can tell you firsthand, adjusting to one of those takes serious MH resources, and if you have malformed coping mechanisms, a new disability WILL expose them.
Yes, absolutely, the prevention measures we're taking are stressful. But SO IS THE ACTUAL PANDEMIC.
The @StarTribune shows as many people grieving for a lost volleyball season as for a friend. This is PART OF THE PROBLEM.
