Council agrees to consult over planting of thousands of trees in Armley Park following outcry - updated | West Leeds Dispatch https://westleedsdispatch.com/council-agrees-to-consult-over-planting-of-thousands-of-trees-in-armley-park-following-outcry/
This has been really clumsily done. This Facebook post is embarrassingly badly spun. You can’t just plant a load of trees in a well used park & expect everyone to be happy about it because of the Climate Emergency. https://www.facebook.com/119487388122660/posts/5019477368123613/?d=n
It’s a handy little reminder of the challenge we face. The need to act fast - alongside the need to engage people in the process, not feel alienated, and not feel like actions taken in response to the #ClimateEmergency will not benefit them.
More broadly I’m sure interested in the success rate of planting unprotected small trees (are they calledwhips?) in public spaces. We need to make sure the targets & desire to act quickly don’t end up with quick actions that don’t achieve long term goals.
