Good to see improved recognition but more needs to be done the recognition of stalking, and more cases been identified. But lots of work do. Research suggests that around 50-60% of stalking involves ex partners. So 40% of cases are not ex-partners. https://twitter.com/live_life_safe/status/1334883201341411330
Only 16% of cases charged involved non ex-intimates, which is under representative. Having said this stalking cases levels are still behind the population estimates.
I would be cautious in make firm links between DA and stalking, while the evidence shows that there can be DA Often coercive control in relationships prior to stalking post relationships and the severity of DA increases likelihood of stalking post relationship
There are many cases where DA is not present and the ending is the trigger for the behaviour. What we do know is the rejected group are an increased risk of violence and more likely to act on threats made, so it is not to downplay the seriousness or the psychological harm
Of stalking. It is more to caution that charge and conviction is not a great indicator or true prevalence or the strength of a link as this data is likely skewed by other factors. This is a complex picture and we should be tentative and critical
Before jumping on a single link or explanation as tempting as it maybe. Caution, curiosity and humility is often what is needed. I often find with complex behaviours and issues holding this cartoon in mind helps. But what is clear is the need to do better for all who are stalked
So great places for information and support are: @TalkingStalking @paladinservice @ACR_Trust @ActionStalking @VeritasSussex
Also as the analysis is 50 cases only the sample size most like precludes any firm conclusions or generalisability.
