I wish we would do away with the myth of bipartisanship and just admit that the total ideological alignment of the parties makes that impossible. Then it's clear that what Dems have to do is not some fantasy about building coalitions across the aisle. It's using every tool at your disposal as leverage and knowing what you can trade. Or: politics!
I, too, wish the party of nihilism was more values-based and cared about Americans who weren't rich and white. But they are not going to transform via magical thinking. We don't have to be nihilists too but we do have to understand that they're not changing any time soon.
