today's winter walk was a bit longer, but only saw two dogwalkers and a farmer on the whole way.
started on a footpath that runs parallel to the old railway track; duplicate, smaller status means it's dead quiet.
path then opens up into a woodland after crossing a road; found a weird pile of smashed terracotta pipes and pots under a bush. then following the river to a small lake.
the river turns into the most algae-covered lake I've seen; over the last year it only got worse.

then through fields and muddy wood paths. hasn't rained heavily for a little while but the clay mud is a real nightmare to walk through still.
followed the path to a track towards a proper woodland, meeting some horses and farm machinery (working and abandoned) along the way.
followed the track past a farm, then into the muddiest fucking woodland. lots of it is new-ish growth with the sapling guards still on the trees
out of the woods, past another farm and some more horses, then across some fields as the sun starts to creep towards the horizon
past another railway bridge, and the sky gets orange and moody as I reach home. my feet ache a little after what was a longer walk than planned...
