In the Covid winter, it's hard to know what's safe, and what's appropriate. We asked 700 epidemiologists how they're living. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/upshot/epidemiologists-virus-survey-.html @clairecm @qdbui
Their reported behavior is not the same thing as advice, but I find it helpful to know what people with more expertise than me think is ok for themselves and their families. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/upshot/epidemiologists-virus-survey-.html
We also asked them about how they see the future unfolding. They are excited about the coming vaccines. But cautiously so. Many think it may be another year or two (or longer!) before things go back to normal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/upshot/epidemiologists-virus-survey-.html
I really recommend reading their many quotes. The numbers mean something, but it's also helpful to see that epidemiologists are also humans who need to navigate the world just like everyone else.
The samples don't perfectly overlap, but we asked people this time whether their understanding of the risks of Covid has changed since the spring. A majority said yes. This is how science works. We are all learning. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/upshot/epidemiologists-virus-survey-.html
And if you want to know about how epidemiologists are spending the holidays, we have an article about that, too. Focus was mostly on Thanksgiving, but the responses for winter holidays were basically identical. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/20/upshot/how-epidemiologists-spending-thanksgiving.html
Thanks again to the @societyforepi for helping us circulate this survey to its membership. We really appreciate it!
