Nedstalgia: 25 years ago, PH at UMass. A largely forgettable show, my single musical memory is of the second set opening Timber scaring the bezeesus out of me... in a good way.
But also worth noting how these were the 3rd and 4th shows at the Mullins Center over 2 years and how much the band had grown over that time. Worth noting that this was a 2-night run on a **Monday** and **Tuesday** in a venue that had been a bit big for them the previous spring.
Worth noting that for their coast-to-coast reach, they were also still, at their heart, transitioning from a regional college band, and that I'm sure we weren't the only ones who drove to Amherst for the first show, went back to our dorms and apartments after the show...
...went to class or studied Tuesday morning, and then drove back for the next night. Worth noting that these shows were filled with young men and women who were like us, college kids in the northeast taking a break during finals.
For many of us the shows weren't necessarily on *our* college campus, but maybe they could've been, still felt like home. In many ways, these 2 shows at the Mullins were the end of Northeast-campus Phish, for better or worse.
How lucky to have been in school those years, to have been finishing the first semester of my senior year during December 1995. Worth noting for sure.
