By dissolving the Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs), the government is glossing over the crisis of distress-selling by the small-marginal farmers, due to lack of storage and transportation facilities, benefiting rich farmers and corporates.

Doing away with the limit on storage of essential agricultural commodities will intensify hoarding of essential commodities by corporates and rich farmers, thereby causing price rise. The inflated prices affect the common public severely.

The production costs should be reduced by subsidizing essentials required for agriculture such as fertilizers, seeds etc.

The government should also ensure that the agricultural workers are provided minimum wages as mandated by law.

The government should take pro-active steps to allot lands to agricultural workers and encourage co-operative farming among them so as to end their exploitation.

The PDS should be allocated a minimum of 1% of the GDP to ensure affordable food for all.

KYS also demands that the policy of ‘land to the tiller’ should be enacted, implemented and strictly enforced.
