America Unmasked - Thread - 1 /18

We have lived so long in the shadows of the greatest country in the world, that the year 2020 has been quite the eye-opener.
- Watching the United States fall apart on all front has had the world riveted to their news outlets watching the mask slip and fall from what was when all is said and done, nothing more than a carefully crafted illusion.
- The welcoming country, the country of immigrants from the mayflower, the country where the statue of liberty welcomes strangers from other lands, will now be remembered...
- ... as the country that separated infants from mothers, put children in cages, ripped wombs out of women, and kept information that could have reunited children with their parents for more than 3 years.
- The “united” country, that we’ve long believed could face anything together, now so divided that a national emergency plan was shelved when it was discovered that “blue states” were the ones being most affected at the time from the virus.
- Today friendships and families are torn apart by partisanship, which party they support, and I do not mean disagreements at the dinner table, but people are cutting off from each other, not speaking to each other for months.
- The military giant, the one with the no man left behind policy, now stands as the country that abandoned its allied the Kurds in a move so shocking that even authoritarian regimes were appalled. The year a commander in chief qualified fallen soldiers as suckers and losers.
- The savior of the world, pulling out of every accord for the good of the world because they must put themselves and only themselves first. Planet and humanity be damned, the US only cares (or pretends to) about its own citizens.
- The problem with this stance being that climate has no nationality and isn’t stopped by imaginary borders drawn by invisible ink.
- The champion of democracy renowned for “a government of the people, by the people, for the people” now tarnished by a sitting president has been for more months trying to disenfranchise thousands of voters of their voice, mostly in cities where minorities are numerous.
- The birthplace of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, and so many other iconic blacks, has become the place of an unprecedented uprising by minorities over systemic racisms, injustices, and biases against them. In the year 2020.
- The blunders and bloopers from the latest American government have been going on for 4 years, but this last year has been the unmasking of the real United States of America.
- It has been the year of discovering that much of the USA’s bragging was only just that bragging. Well applied makeup, to mask the ugliness beneath.
- But the most marking legacy the United States will leave to future generations, is the unmasking of its citizen's selfishness, their utter disregard for others lives. The year they raged over masks as more than a 1/4 million of people died.
- The scenes of people protesting the wearing of masks, holding mask burning rallies will forever be etched into our memories.
- That such a simple gesture to save another’s life, to protect another, should be turned into a fight for fictitious personal freedom is an insult to anyone that has ever fought for freedom.
- Yes the world will remember 2020 and the disgraced fall of the American giant, and it will also remember that it was able to keep going, indeed to show grace and depth and care, while their so-called leader turned their back on humanity and decency.
- The world will remember that in the end, it did not need the support of the United States of America. And that my friends, is why it will be hard if not impossible for the USA to reclaim its place among the leaders of the world.
