My thought as well. We have made remarkable progress. The energy projects cited as lacking U.S. content (TAP, IGB, FSRU) likely would not have happened without U.S. policy efforts over many years. And American companies like @generalelectric play a key role. https://twitter.com/greekanalyst/status/1334834123198918657
Moreover, American entrepreneurship, for instance at @USATIF_2018 , has been a key enabler of Greece’s leap from digital laggard to European technology hub. @pfizer @Microsoft @Google @Deloitte @IBM @Cisco @BlinkCharging etc. we have a good story to tell.
Could we do more, of course. And as @PrimeministerGR laid out in Washington in January, our task should be to bring our trade and investment ties up to the same game changing level as our defense cooperation. But the Californian in me sees headroom as a good thing.
And we have new policy tools, like @DFCgov that are helping American companies chart new ground in areas like shipbuilding and ports that are central to Greece’s maritime heritage (and energy security) but suffered disinvestment through the crisis years.
Plus we have government partners like @nkerameus and @AdonisGeorgiadi who are helping us to lay track for the future, building education and scientific research ties that will pay dividends for decades to come, building on America’s openness and academic excellence.
