65% of those on income support in NL don't have enough food to eat. Food insecurity is connected to chronic illness incl higher rates of hospitalization. Makes more sense to prevent illness than pay for it later.
Children who experience food insecurity are at higher risk for mental illnesses later in youth including anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, hyperactivity, suicidal ideation, and learning difficulties.

Ask yourself what you would do to protect your child?
Families with children facing food insecurity are doing what's in their power to protect their kids and that often means trading off heating or other bills to afford food.

This is a health care issue and we need to start dealing with the health care costs to hunger.
