Oh my god politicians are getting it all wrong on communicating we should all get vaccinated. So we're going to have to step up.

Here's what individuals can do to help the NHS and get as many people vaccinated as possible 1/
Before your turn comes, talk to your family about it. Explain that you want to get it, and you want them to get it too. When you get offered it, say yes. 2/
Tell everyone you know that you got vaccinated. Share pics. Say something about you - who you are, your interests and passions, where you're from - so people can identify with you 3/
Your core message: people like us get vaccinated. This is all about building the social norm. Sharing that you got vaccinated is the most important thing you can do 4/
Shared verified info from the NHS only. Help family and friends find verified info. Don't factcheck or mythbust (it can discourage people from getting vaccinated) 5/
Don't share anti-vax content - even with a snarky comment or debunk on the top. You sharing it tells the algorithm to show it to more people. You're doing the anti-vaxxers' job for them 6/
Stop arguing. You're trying to get people to take an action - get vaccinated. You're not trying to win an argument. And for the love of g-d, don't tell people with doubts or worries that they are stupid. 7/
Instead: create a connection. Ask open-ended questions. Listen. Validate the things we all have in common - wanting to make the best decisions about our health, and getting back to normal. Be kind and reassuring: it's been one hell of a year. 8/
If people have misconceptions or worries, work together to find answers. Blunt rebuttals can reinforce the misconception and break down the trust between you. Don't do it. 9/
If you encounter dedicated anti-vaxx propaganda, don't engage. Try to reduce their ability to share misinformation - report, block, raise concerns with admins, take down their posters, whatever you can 10/
Be an engaged citizen. Help take down the structural barriers that stop people getting the jab. Demand an effective, fair programme that meets the needs of UK's diverse communities.

Example: people should get paid time off to get the jab. Start a campaign with your union 11/
Demand leadership from media and social media networks. Challenge anti-vax propaganda - call or write in. Demand companies you buy from step up. 12/
Demand your community, cultural, professional and local leaders get vaccinated themselves and speak out for vaccination. If you are a leader in any sphere of your life - step up. You can set an example and reassure people. 13/
Getting vax is a leap of faith - faith that medics and scientists have done their job, that it's safe, and that the state has your best interests at heart. That's hard for lots of people. So we have to be careful not to feed mistrust whilst holding politicians accountable. 14/
Politicians will mess up the comms on this. They already are. Let's hope the public health communicators can take back control and reach communities worried about vaccination but alienated by politicians and vulnerable to misinfo. And we can all help. 15/
