This further image by Rex Harris of the window detail suggests that the poor child may have drowned. Here he is plucked from the water by angels with strong, other-worldly, yet welcoming, features.
In his original BoE edition Pevsner describes St. Faith as "a very satisfying church" and his editors commend the 1948 restoration by Frederick Etchells as "exemplary". Etchells began as a Modernist but turned to church conservation later in his career.
Many of you will know Etchells as the co-author of The Architectural Setting of Anglican worship, pub. in the same year of this restoration. He trained under Lethaby for two years, was an active member of SPAB and a founder of the Georgian Group. Here he has renewed the box pews.
