Wrote about how Instagram is changing, and some creators are not happy with its algorithm allegedly favouring videos over static images, especially if the images aren't funny, entertaining, or meme-esque.

These creators largely belong to communities like #WritersOfInstagram or #ArtistsOfInstagram. Some don't want to do videos, others admit they're not good at it. They say the organic reach of their static posts has been on the decline, esp so since the launch of Reels.
While Instagram denies any changes to the algorithm that reduces reach for static images, creators say it's no secret that the platform favours videos, adding it makes business sense for Instagram as it is competing with YouTube and TikTok for time spent by a user on the app.
Some creators also feel the changes on the platform are an outcome of the changes in audience’s preference, especially at a time when the app has become more of a means to an escape than a means to express. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/technology/unhappy-with-instagrams-aggressive-video-push-creators-seek-options/articleshow/79517969.cms
Writer and content creator @filmy_singh describes it with a fitting observation: “People would rather watch a funny video on my struggles as a writer than read my writing,” she says. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/technology/unhappy-with-instagrams-aggressive-video-push-creators-seek-options/articleshow/79517969.cms
That said, creators who haven't been able to adapt to the changing ways of the platform feel shortchanged as they grew their community on the platform but the platform grew with and through them, too. The writers' and artists' communities have ~42 million posts on IG
These are creators who used the carousel feature for posts to tell short stories and write essays in the form of text-based images. The ones who wrote long captions, confessions. Those who couldn’t look into the camera but spoke through the eyes of their sketches.
They are going platform-agnostic now, finding alternatives.
Echoing their sentiment, @malathijogi says: " If Instagram wants me to work in line with its changing algorithm, then it is a platform built for itself and not the creators anymore.” https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/technology/unhappy-with-instagrams-aggressive-video-push-creators-seek-options/articleshow/79517969.cms

If the story is too long, here's a TL;DR version of it, in the form of an Instagram video itself. By @filmy_singh

A very important thread underscoring the point I had raised in this article last month about creators being unhappy with the direction Instagram is going in with its algorithm changes. https://twitter.com/rainylune/status/1341184419957116928?s=19
