Compare and contrast the current situation with events leading to 1984 and after it. In 84, the state media (Doordarshan and All India Radio) was under government control and used to villify the Sikhs, just like what the current government tried to do.

But the difference was

that this time social media (and local/freelance media) was used effectively to counter the negative messaging of government. You don't expect better from Indian right wing media but it is the so called liberal media/reporters who are the real snakes.
