Psychedelics are powerful substances
Science is again trying to explore and explain this. Science uses a reductive, physicalist approach to what is essentially a very personal, indescribable numinous experience.

The benefits I have experienced include the realisation...
that my daily experience of the world was too focused on the scientific reductionist models.

We are animals, humans, with a unique conscious experience, all trying to understand our world, our selves our purpose & place

Science creates models of the world, tries to exclude bias
and be objective, find the solid laws that can understand everything through models & mathematics

But this is no way to experience the world & our daily lives, its too dry & rigid and misses out the experiential part of existence

So while science tries to evaluate the effect
for healing or otherwise, it may be destined to fail because part of the effect may be to persuade people to ignore the bland scientific view of existence and feel it. Whether it is a sense of a universal consciousness, or a divinity or a general new sense of wonder
If you have to try and explain it, then it may destroy it, so the difficulty is trying to live with that sense of mystery and wonder but not lose all awareness of bias that comes with human psychology and still be able to apply scientific rigor when appropriate
