I have it on good authority that the plot of this one is going to really infuriate the very online Star Wars dudes and I will now reveal that plot. Spoilers ahead https://twitter.com/pattymo/status/1334750143342637057
A man, Luke something, runs a newsstand in Times Square. It’s 1997. The neighborhood used to be legendarily seedy but all that’s almost gone.
Newsstands feel like their days are numbered, too, but what can you do? Worked hard to get this place going
One morning he’s taking delivery on a pallet of import mags at the pier, super early, when this vision hits him
What if my dad was some super gnarly villain in a really cool suit? And I never even met him, he’s just out there destroying planets and strangling dudes
The vision comes and goes in a flash, but it haunts him. On slow days at work he sketches the whole concept out in a notebook
Over time it begins to feel very real
Customers start to seem like space travelers from dozens of different planets
As daydreams go, it’s a little intense, especially the part where he ends up killing his dad
But what the hell
It beats just sitting around doing nothing
The titles don’t roll until the end, as he’s closing up shop for the day on a lovely spring evening in Manhattan, May 1997
