Anyone ever notice that Link from the Legend of Zelda is based on the Scythians? Let's take a look...
First let's look at his famous cap. This is known as a Phrygian cap and was commonly worn by Scythians.
Scythians were known for their blonde hair and blue eyes. In the beginning, these features were so common among Scythians compared to other groups that they could almost be identified by them. Now take a look at Link and Zelda.
Scythians conquered most of the known world through horse chariot archery and later, horseback archery. Link's main weapon besides his sword is his bow, and he's often seen using it on Epona or another horse.
Link's main weapon, the Master Sword, is clearly based on the Sword in the Stone - Excalibur. The legend of King Arthur is based on an old Scythian story.
Another one of Link's popular weapons, the Megaton Hammer, is based on Thor's hammer Mjolnir. Thor and the rest of the Norse gods were based on the Scythian folklore.
And before we move on from weapons, Excalibur is also famous for its association with the Lady of the Lake, who helps Arthur. Link is also helped by a lady of the lake, Princess Ruto!
Here's another picture of a Scythian warrior with his weapons on horseback. Note what looks like a sword and a hammer at his waist. A bow as a given, as well.
Finally, while the home base of the Scythians was originally the Eurasian steppe and later Europe, their traditional enemy was to the south, who were dark with sharp features, matriarchal, and often lived in the desert. Who else does this describe?
