Humans now are living longer than we ever have courtesy of modern medicine & sanitation. If Covid-19 had struck even 30 years ago the death tolls would be staggering. It wouldn't be so remote for so many people. I'm old enough to remember when chicken pox could clear a school
We think of measles, mumps, even the flu as relatively harmless. But they were killers. Vaccines helped immensely. So have strides in treatment and diet and so on. Even better ventilation matters. But we're at risk of backsliding & that would awful for generations.
I never had chicken pox or the other childhood diseases. But what I did have was a weak stomach. More accurately, my stomach responds to anything that might be kind of amiss violently. Better food safety standards gave me a "stronger" stomach. But people used to die from bad food
Technically they still do. But again, it's far less common now. But the reason your elders ate well done meat & boiled vegetables to hell and back? They remembered how a bad bit of pork could kill you. The most basic tech of fire saves lives. And vaccines? Humans using nature
The first vaccine was for smallpox in 1796. It's a disease we reference but don't really remember because it was eradicated. I was one when the last known case was seen in the world. Not America. The world. It took 181 year to do that. https://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/vaccine-education-center/vaccine-details/smallpox-vaccine
Humans are basically figuring out how to survive potential extinction all the time. And we're very stupid to be so smart, because we invent ways to save ourselves and then we create doubt in our own inventions. It's a wildly dissonant reality littered with snake oil
But do yourself a favor, instead of assuming that we're doomed, assume that we can save ourselves. Proceed accordingly. Yes, do your research, doubt anyone that claims a poison can prevent a disease. Vaccines do work in the human body. Bleach does not.
