Thoughts on Runnin' Utes first game:
1) This was changed on my profile almost 4 months ago. Larsson had 7 assists in 17 minutes of play. Thought he really helped lock down Quade Green during his minutes on the floor as well. Highest freshmen ceiling I remember since Jakob.
2) 21 assists on 28 made FGs against the UW zone in our first game. That's a very encouraging stat to me.
3) Utah won a game by 20 points where it didn't feel like Timmy OR Rylan had to be dominant.
4) Plummer probably can't jack 17 shots per, but he's established himself on the scout as a legit threat and that floor spacing is going to pay dividends through this season. We didn't get that last season, because he surged very late. Nice game from him tonight and good defense.
5) Pelle is going to significantly take burden off of Rylan's shoulders. Surprised he only played 17 mins, but first game... can't read too much. I expect him to continue to get more minutes. I didn't know about him defensively, but he appears very capable.
6) A chart: Ken Pom continuity / experience chart. Essentially, it measures what % of minutes are being played from guys who played the previous year. Will shift slightly over time, but here is Utah's initial mark for 2021. Utah's last 3 tourney years are 2009, 2015, 2016.
7) I won't over-react after one game, but I need to see BC and LT play a little tougher on the boards. Combined 7 in 30 min of play. Great shot-blocking BC, but I'd really like to see them get after the boards with some passion.
8) Overall, great initial game, given everything! I expect to have a lot of the bugs ironed out over the next few games. These Utes are going to be fun!
