Here's my takeaway from “Your Job is to Make Art" by Seth Godin @ThisIsSethsBlog. Tried to condense 46 mins into the thread below 👇

Thank you @izwanzakaria1 for recommending this! ✨
1 / You’re not gonna get noticed unless you pay to be on the #1 spot on platforms like Facebook, Google, Amazon. They make you average. If you reject this mindset of getting noticed for free, you embrace the fact that you’re gonna get noticed because you’re *special*.
2 / You’ll get noticed if you’re special. The only way to be special is to NOT be average. The only way to not be average is to ignore almost everybody—to make it for a few people only.
3 / People are not willing to pay more on average stuff. How do you price higher? Be the only one—the one who can’t be replaced easily. The one who doesn't make people go 'sorting by price'.
4 / ‘Sort by price’ is a game you will never win. It’s the bane of your existence. Target the smallest possible audience - someone who doesn’t bother to sort by price. Smallest possible audience does not equal to 1 person - it’s the smallest audience you can live with.
5 / Finding your smallest possible audience means you’ll be ignored by your competition. You'll delight your audience with your uniqueness that they won’t find elsewhere. And then, the bigger (greater) stuff takes care of itself.
6 / Ask yourself:
What’s the smallest possible audience that I can do my best work for?
Who’s it for? (Not everybody)
What’s it for?
If you’re not seeking to make a change, what exactly are you doing?
7 / We’ve been taught to aim for the middle of the bell curve—to be average. But different people see/hear things differently. You’re only able to get their attention by going to where they are and by whispering, not shouting.
8 / When you make something, it’s okay to do it wrong until you do it right. And it’s cheaper than ever to do it wrong, until you do it right. This is the magic of the internet world.
9 / We live in a connection economy. It’s the connection/asset we build that create value. This economy is based on coordination, trust, permission, exchange of ideas, generosity and art. All of us is smarter than any of us. Together we can create innovation.
10 / The purpose for our best work is to make change happen. I’m not gonna give you a map because then you would be a plumber, a plumber who goes ‘Tell me what you want, I’ll go do it.’ The world doesn’t need more plumbers.
11 / If failure is not an option, then neither is success. Innovation is about failing repeatedly until you find the next thing that works.
12 / There’s a huge difference between being ready vs being prepared. All of you are prepared, but you may not always be ready. To be ready is to be sure it’s gonna work. You can’t be sure it’s gonna work!
13 / Be willing to own your story and own your failures. The question is not whether you’re successful. The question is will you choose to matter.
That’s it! Seth speaks with strong emotions and passion. He doesn’t need slides full of text to convey the idea. He IS the idea. Thanks @izwanzakaria1 for recommending 😁
