I had a long conversation with a parent today about how she would feel if school reopened in January. Obviously she wants her kids back in school, but she is hesitant to send them back this year. She trusts the supe, she trusts the district, & she trusts staff.... #waedu #waleg
....but she doesn't trust the other families. She hears the kids on Zoom who are still having sleepovers, big celebrations, & are out & about w/out masks. She's come in contact with the deniers, the anti-maskers, & heard about the parents who send infected kids to school. #waedu
My district has already established a mask policy. Even preschoolers wear masks. Only a few SPED students do not, and staff w/them have gowns, gloves, KN95 masks, & face shields or goggles. So far no cases, but very limited, highly-controlled population. #waedu #waleg
However, among the many issues impacting the reopening of schools...is our lack of PPE. We don't have enough masks, gloves, or gowns. We gave our supplies away to medical staff back in March, & have been unable to procure enough replacements + add to our stock. #waedu #waleg
Without adequate PPE, we can't operate safely. We know kids will be coming in from the community infected w/the virus - some due to a lack of precautions, some d/t their precarious living situations. Add in the parents that will deliberately send in sick kids, & we're screwed.
