THREAD: Was able to read the article and I thought I’d respond a bit. This article discusses both Reaganism, what the right should look like ideologically, and offers critiques on those who oppose the post Reagan GOP orthodoxy. There are some areas where I agree but some big https://twitter.com/realdailywire/status/1334529089294618625
areas of disagreement. Looking at Reagan’s record, this article paints an otherworldly portrait of his administration. It was basically the perfect pinnacle of conservatism. While I admire Reagan greatly, he did do some left wing things. While the article mentions his tax cuts,
it does not mention that he raised taxes 11 times during his presidency. It doesn’t mention his refusal to touch entitlement programs and his acceptance of new deal liberalism. It does not mention that he passed gun control and granted amnesty to over 3 million illegal immigrants
This is not to suggest he didn’t do good things, but to illustrate his brand of conservatism accepted much of liberalism as an integral part of it. As to the direction of the conservative movement. This article rails against populists and nationalists. It criticized anyone who
wants to avoid disastrous regime change wars as isolationists. It falsely claims that Americans are practically united in their commitment to large levels of immigration and free trade, when in actuality, a majority of Americans want less legal immigration and a merit based
system. It says “we have nothing to fear from cultural change” and that all immigrants simply want freedom. This notion that a country can survive radical and intermittent changes in culture is ludicrous. Every wave of immigration in the US has been followed by a period of less
immigration and assimilation of those here. This article totally ignores the voting trends among immigrants which harken the destruction of the Reaganism they seek to uphold. I also noticed there wasn’t any mention of polls when it came to foreign policy. Perhaps this is because
a massive number of Americans support ending the disastrous foreign policy of the GOP and Dem establishments that have brought our country to its knees financially and morally. I would like to respond more but this thread is already long enough.
I can’t be as articulate as I’d like in this forum, but perhaps I’ll write an article further explaining this in the future.
