THREAD / God almighty. Politics is still keeping me awake at my age. Hence time of these tweets. I posted a few hours ago my incredulity the Eastbourne Lab Party had just passed a motion criticising Starmer and supporting Corbyn. Along with around 60 other Lab groups thus far.
2/ If they continue down this road they’ll destroy any chance Starmer has of dragging Lab to the moderate centre left, and because of FPTP, consign the rest of us to more decades of Tory rule.
3/ What is it with the hard left that they just don’t understand in England (not the Celtic countries) our Empire hangover and 100 years of right wing newspaper proprietors mean the voting public have an immunity to left wing politics which is unbreakable. No available vaccine.
4/ It’s imbued deeper in the English psyche than Pravda ever managed. And at least the Russians knew it was blatant propaganda! Many English don’t and will swear blind to the contrary. Free press and all that. Yeh right.
5/ What this means, and Starmer gets it, is you cannot win national elections in England from the left. Why can’t the Corbyn adherents see this? It’s just utter self delusion not to.
6/ The frustrating reality of the Tories is that more often than not they’re economically incompetent, arrogantly entitled and grotesquely prejudicial to their own - but they keep winning elections. If the world was fair they wouldn’t be let a millions miles near government.

In the real world though if you want power you start living in that reality rather than a cosy make-believe one. Otherwise, Labour, you’ll be consigned to constant failure at the ballot box. And under FPTP that affects all of us

8/ So to all Corbynista’s. Please. Get real. I just can’t face the likes of Johnson and his incoherent, useless, crooked shower of a government ruling over us in perpetuity.
