Think about what happens to people under these conditions. Once you’ve sliced up each bit of society to the point where the average person has no meaningful relationships, people’s individual selves basically cease to exist
People then become permanently stunted by whichever palliative is available (which is why you get things like YA literature fixations but normally it’s just alcoholism)
Also this is really hard to rebuild when it’s gone bc you can’t magically relearn how to do society from scratch
