10pm EST tonight I'm doing a talk on Clubhouse "Saturn Return Support Group". As someone with 4 planets in Capricorn, and 6 planets ruled by Saturn... in a night chart. I feel like a little bit of a wizard (or at least I'll become one once Saturn goes into Aquarius).
Though, I think, ancestrally, initiation is related to Pluto transits, there is a level of initiation that's in relationship to Saturn. It's less about your own personal journey but about becoming a responsible member of your community and your limits within that.
Within the confines of capitalism and modern astrology, we're told that if you "work on yourself" you'll be able to mitigate the effects of the Saturn Return. I don't believe that and I think it mirrors the toxic "pull yourself up by the bootstraps!" rhetoric.
Being expected to "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" ignores *systemic oppression*, and Saturn is all about systems.

When I think of Saturn, I think of Maat, the Egyptian goddess of morality, harmony and balance, which to me, corresponds to Saturn's exhalation in Libra.
What is your relationship to inner authority? Do you trust your intuition? Do you let others tell you what is right?

Maat's concern was that you were acting in ways that is truthful and fair. That Egyptians were in relationship to their rituals & community responsibilities.
In modern times, I see the Saturn Return as a time where trials, tribulations, and loss, are miserable. When you follow your intuition, and when you're doing what you think is right, these trials will help you build towards the person you want to be.
You can build structures in your life that help sustain you through life's shifts with greater self reliance (or understanding of who/what is appropriate to lean on in times of strife).

What does it mean in the context of capitalism?
You begin to realize structures are bigger than you. The arbitrary nature of the American healthcare system, promotions due to loyalty rather than skill, beauty and body standards, can all kick your ass. There's no ~magical thinking~ outside of these things.
Your Saturn Return can show you how you grapple with them. How you respond to systemic injustice influencing your day to day. Are you someone who speaks up? Are you someone who needs time to learn and understand?
You'll figure out where your place is in that. Maybe you'll unlearn or contend with the flight, fight, freeze or fawn reactions you've learned in childhood.
Thanks for listening to my Saturnian analysis!

I learned about Saturn Returns from Jessica Lanyadoo's Ghost of a Podcast episode on them, Sam Reynold's Nitty Gritty 2 Class. Leisa Shaim and Chris Brennan talk about Saturn Returns on an episode of The Astrology Podcast as well.
