Michael had business plans to open up “Majestic Kingdom” that would be a $1 billion hotel and casino. It had potential to be the largest black owned company in the world but the people of Detroit (where it was gonna be located) rejected the idea
Michael wanted Invincible to have a “street sound” so in 98 he linked with Diddy and Babyface. He also worked with DeVante Swing from Jodeci
Michael stated to a tabloid in ‘99 that Invincible was going to be his last official album and was going to venture into other areas of music and won’t be releasing album after album
Michael & Sisqo have a song together called “Do You Want Me” but the song was halted because baby Prince was sick
Michael also worked with Robin Thicke but the process was halted again because of baby Prince falling ill. He also had to cancel a concert appearance on June 1st bc of Prince
Invincible was originally supposed to be released in November of 99
Michael was suppose to perform two NYE millennium concert in the same night in Hawaii and then fly to Sydney to do one but they were both cancelled
Rodney Jerkins pitches the idea of having Michael duet with Whitney Houston on “If I Told You That” and said it had potential to be the biggest record ever but it never came to fruition. They went with George Michael
“Whatever Happens” is a song about a girl discovering that she’s pregnant
2000 Watts was originally written for singer Tyrese but Michael loved it and wanted it so Tyrese happily gave it to him
Michael, being extremely drunk, called his management team (Jeff Kwatinetz, Michael Green) cured them out and fire them because he felt they trying to sabotage his album by not having a marketing plan to promote it
Tommy Mottola was highly against Michael putting “The Lost Children” on the album because he felt that it was stir up controversy within the press because of the ‘93 allegations
Invincible was Michael’s longest running album in his career
Michael reached out to Dr. Dre to do a collaboration but he turned it down stating he only works with new artist
Michael’s management declined all the songs that were brought to him by Pharrell and the Neptunes. Michael never got to hear the songs. He later sang them for Pharrell and said he really wished they were on his album instead of Justin Timberlake’s
Babyface, Diddy, and Wyclef Jean all had their work with Michael shelved
Tommy Mottola was upset that Michael spent so much money making the album and blamed his team for allowing him to go crazy on his work. Michael didn’t put a price on his work

Sony released YRMW as the 1st single but only in the U.S. not commercially bc they believed it could harm the album sales. Bc of that the song peaked @ #10 based on radio played. Has it been released worldwide it would’ve made #1
Critics claimed that YRMW was a great song but it failed to have a “wow” factor as the 1st single, hence the reason why Michael said Unbreakable would’ve been the better option and have YRMW come out second but Sony refused to listen to him
Tommy and the rest of the Sony company would talk behind Michael’s back and say that the album wasn’t good work but they refused to gave him continue working on it because he was taking too long
Michael originally was covered in gold for the original album cover but Sony altered it so that you couldn’t see his face
After seeing Sony’s marketing plan for the album Michael lost the motivation to work. Teddy told Michael the album was gonna be a hit. Michael said he’d be surprised if it sells 2M copies :(
Michael began to feel like he was loosing creative control over his work. He said that he was submitting good work but never got to do things he wanted, he was always rushed so the projects weren’t to his standards, and he could never make films to his ability.
Cry was made as the second single without his approval and he was give a $1M budget and he refused to appear in it. Sony released Butterflies as a single and pitched a film idea but Michael didn’t believe in it so it was never filmed. Cry did awful on the charts
Sony marketed the album with a tour but Michael refused bc of the 9/11 attacks. Tommy Mottola was angry because he thought the excuse of 9/11 was weak bc other artist were still touring
Michael was suppose to perform at the 2002 Grammys
Michael and Sony began battling bc Michael wanted the rights to his masters, and he demanded he be given $8M to fund his Unbreakable video that would create a dance that everyone would remember. Sony said saying the video was too expensive and too violent for his idea
The video was suppose to be him being dangled over a roof by thugs and he’ll eventually fall off, die, and turn into fire while he comes back to life
When Michael said he was going to fund it himself, Sony cancelled all promo for the album, cancelled all singles, and cancelled his 2002 Grammy appearance, and took the album off priority listing. None of the singles reached #1
Sony blamed the failure of sales on the fact that Michael refused to tour. Michael felt cheated and began to protest Sony
Tommy Mottola denied claims that Michael was sabotaged saying “why would we sabotage you if you make us money? That’s like the government being behind 9/11” LMFAOOOO
Despite not being good then, Michael had faith that in decades to come Invincible will eventually be appreciated because “good art never dies”
