Will be glad to escape to a #QueensGambit virtual Q&A with Scott Frank after work today. Hoping for insight, maybe even inspiration, and if nothing else, a few moments away from the news stream.
One fun question linked his first film Little Man Tate and Gambit as focusing on child prodigies. When Frank discovered the book he thought it a much better approach to a prodigy story. (Prev Bertolucci and others were interested in QG adaption.) "Book unusual...cinematic."
And Frank changed her friend Jenny in the novel to be French and more interesting, and also started series with France just to let people know this will be a series about Anya T-J later. And mother is nonexistent in novel.
Very interesting anecdote too about how he came to cast director (and actress) Marielle Heller in the film (originally was gonna be in a small role).
Anyway this interview will be on the @CarseyWolfUCSB Facebook within a couple of weeks so I'll share link then.

(Humorously, Frank said when Netflix was so easy about letting him cast Heller as the adoptive mom that he assumed it meant they didn't care about the show at all. But thankful they allowed it!)
