To highlight some parts of this article: 1.) In Afghanistan, you often hear stories about war crimes by Western soldiers. I actually lost the count. Often, there are no time & ressources to investigate further.
2.) Australian military confirmed that SAS units were responsible for war crimes. Between 2005 & 2013, at least 39 Afghan civs were brutally murdered by soldiers who considered their deliberate attacks some kind of perverted sports game, likely just a small part of the whole pic.
3.) All eyes are on Australia, but other NATO countries conducted massive war crimes too. During the WoT, Afghans ve been bombed from the air, hit by insurgent suicide attacks on the ground, or by attacked by drones. They have been dragged off to black sites and to GTMO Bay
4.) All this was possible through the dehumanization of the Afghan people, constantly labelling them as "terrorists", "enemy combatants" or "military-aged males" - the Orwellian Newspeak wording of the War on Terror.
5.) Other countries such as Germany murdered Afghans deliberately too. When a GER Col. gave the order to bomb dozens of civilians in Kunduz in Sept 2009, he employed different tactics to the Australian soldiers, but at the end of the day it led to the death of more than 150 civs.
In 2012, the colonel was promoted to the rank of general by the German army. All of his superiors, politicians and military officials, rejected the view -- the fact -- that he is a war criminal. Klein's victims were not compensated, and they did not receive any apology at all.
6.) The Afghan gov, which mainly ignored and downplayed recent SAS war crime headlines, is part of the pic too. The regime's own soldiers and militias are responsible for very similar crimes.
7.) We hear so less about all this b/c Afghan voices, lappear to not count as long as they are not confirmed by privileged western observers, journalists or activists. The Afghan's agenda is always seen as biased and one-sided.
