Random head thought here but does anyone else feel this sort of, reclaiming of Irish identity? The Gaelic Revival was so steeped in nationalism, and the south greatly shaped by the catholic church, up to the modern day of herrenvolk shites like the NP and others... (1/6)
like them claiming what it means to be 'Irish' (for them and so called 'patriots', all racism and backwardness). There's a real need to reclaim culture, folklore, for lack of a better word an 'Irish identity' from these people... (2/6)
and have something which is compatible with internationalism. The perception of a national identity is tied to the nation, the state, which should be abolished. Yet there is something there? I enjoy Irish folklore, music, the language (although I cannot speak it)... (3/6)
our history, our stories! But I need to do some thinking as to how best to approach things such that they are compatible, or at least not directly contradictory to, a Marxist theoretical perspective... (4/6)
(even if you weren't a Marxist, any socialist perspective may throw up issues here). I'm not saying they are inherently contradictory, but I don't think I'm incorrect in thinking there's something amiss here... (5/6)
I'm also interested to see if this is maybe a post-colonial thing, but I don't think so. Anyway, if anyone has thoughts, or things for me to read, please share! I am sure people much smarter, and well read than me have written about this (6/6)
