when people say reform the police it always means allocating MORE funds to them and then they don’t change anything. we don’t want reform, we want defunding. It’s is not the same thing AT ALL.
Oakland is the best example. A city that had to be under federal supervision forever. Everyone was excited bc it seemed like maybe they really were gonna clean things up. Then it turns out the same shit was happening, they covered it up, bc they wanted to show reform working
Then the scandal got uncovered the chief resigned. Then the interim chief resigned. Then the scandal broke that that tons of cops were all raping an underaged trafficked minor. More and more police chiefs resigned.
finally the mayor was like essentially fuck off this culture is sick and can’t be saved she was pissed. And didn’t appoint a chief and had civilian oversight and ppl in the community were like yeah nothing has gotten better at all and cool that you defunded schools for this.
so they tried this for YEARS. they threw every tactic at it. It did not work whatsoever and in fact arguable made things worse cuz then the cops were like fuck off we get to do what we want, you can’t tell me what to do. The only way to even make a dent in this is to DEFUND.
