these are surveillance tools. they cast students as suspicious from the jump.

"Testing/proctoring methods that invade privacy & erode trust end up undermining the very integrity that institutions demand students uphold.

Academic integrity matters. But integrity works both ways"
also proctoring props up pedagogy that doesn't work for the 21st century.

"Is memorization really a valid educational reason for risking privacy, well-being, and tight university budgets in a world where students will spend most of their lives with Google in their pockets?"
we're outsourcing testing to zero sum surveillance tools that invade student data privacy. full stop.

"This is a breach of the duty of care that universities owe students, and an abdication of higher education’s societal role to create opportunity, not harm."
overall, our institutions are paying big $$ for predatory, proprietary tools that undermine our core mandates & our relationships with students.

as i was on about LAST month, higher ed needs to talk about data ethics, STAT: https://www.insidehighered.com/blogs/university-venus/why-higher-ed-needs-data-ethics
wanna learn more about how proctoring is academic surveillance software + an equity nightmare that goes against both academic integrity AND the original principles of computing?
